Its micron-sized positively charged asphalt particles can be easily attached to the negatively charged solid particles, thus it can reduce the ζ potential of clay particles, compress double electrode layer, decrease the hydration shell thickness, and effectively?stabilize?the clay shale; meanwhile, it involves in the development of the mud cake, and improves its quality. It can also enter the micro fractures of borehole wall, generating conglutination and aggregation.
